Alexa is compatible with so many smart home devices these days that you really can just sit back on your couch and bark commands at your Echo speaker or display to have multiple things happen around you. And that’s all without you really needing to lift a finger, literally.
Those supported smart home devices don’t just include your typical options like Philips Hue and iRobot however, Alexa also works with devices like Dyson fans. Yes, you can use Alexa to turn your Dyson fan on or off, as well as adjust the flow of air to keep you cool during the summer months, or toasty during winter (if you have the right model).
Below, we will explain the short version of setting up your Dyson fan with Alexa and how to control it, as well as a slightly lengthier one with a bit more detail. So sit back, relax and let Alexa make that fan blow.
- A compatible Dyson fan
- The MyDyson app with your fan set up
- Your smartphone or tablet
- An Alexa device
- The Alexa app
- Open the MyDyson app.
- Select your fan from the burger menu on the left.
- Tap the settings cog in the top right corner.
- Select Voice Control.
- Choose Amazon Alexa.
- Select ‘Link with Alexa‘.
- Tap on ‘Link‘ to link your Dyson and Alexa accounts.
- Tap on ‘OK, got it‘ to finish.
Once you’ve linked up your Dyson fan with Alexa, there are a range of commands you can ask your Echo device – or third party Alexa device (like a Sonos speaker) – for with just your voice. These include turning on and off your Dyson fan, along with a few more detailed requests.
These are some examples of the requests you can ask Alexa for when it comes to your Dyson fan:
- “Alexa, turn on my purifier.”
- “Alexa, set the fan speed to five.”
- “Alexa, increase fan speed on purifier.”
- “Alexa, increase the temperature.”
- “Alexa, turn on Night mode.”
- “Alexa, set Oscillation to Narrow on purifier.”
Along with specific requests, you can also incorporate your Dyson fan into Alexa Routines and Groups. That means you could get your Dyson fan in your bedroom to turn on when you say “bedtime” for example, or you could make it work alongside living room lights when you turn everything on at once.
